Best Large Cars and Family Wagons

The Kia Carnival SLi was RACQ's "Best family wagon" in 2018

The Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ) has released their annual list of Australia's best cars, with Kia taking out three categories.

After vigorous testing by the RACQ and associated motoring clubs, 15 cars were selected across a range of categories based on their value for money, safety, design, function and on-road features.

In the smallest category, "Best Micro Car", the RACQ failed to award a winner based on the safety rating of the winning vehicle.

Both Mazda and Kia featured heavily in the list, with each automaker taking out 3 categories apiece.

The best large car under $70,000 was awarded to the heavily-publicised "Commodore killer" in the Kia Stinger, while best family wagon was awarded to the Kia Carnival SLi and the best AWD SUV between $50,000 and $65,000 was awarded to the Kia Sorento GT Line.

Mazda's 2 Maxx was awarded Australia's best light car, while the Mazda 3 Maxx Sport was awarded best small car under $35,000 and the Mazda CX-3 Maxx was awarded the best small 2WD SUV under $35,000.Read more
