- The fourth generation of the 'flagship' SUV Kia wins the prize in the 'Design' category of the famous 'Auto Bild Allrad' competition
- The dynamic and stylish SUV will be available in hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants when it starts marketing in Europe in the second half of 2020
(FRANKFURT) June 10, 2020 - Kia recently unveiled the fourth generation of the Kia Sorento, and the car is already an award winner. The new model, which had its world premiere in March via a live broadcast on Facebook and is to be marketed in Europe in the third quarter of 2020, has been designated the "4x4 car of the year 2020".
The famous competition is supported by Auto Bild Allrad, the best-selling magazine dedicated to 4x4 cars in Europe. The readers of the publication considered that the 'flagship' Kia deserves to receive the award in the "Design" category. This is the third consecutive award received by Kia from Auto Bild Allrad - readers badly voted for the Kia Stinger sports sedan as the winner of the imported car in the category "4x4 cars over 40,000 euros" in 2018 and 2019. The results of the contest have was published in issue 7/2020 of Auto Bild Allrad magazine, but the annual awards ceremony did not take place due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"With the fourth generation of the Sorento model, we are entering a new chapter in the history of our successful flagship SUV, which is why this award makes us especially proud," says Steffen Cost, Managing Director (COO) of Kia Motors Germany. "Its dynamic and elegant design offers the attractive 'package' of a completely modern SUV, with a range of new generation engines, a high-performance 4x4 system, the latest driver assistance technologies, increased comfort and ample interior space. Sorento has gained many fans in Germany since its launch in 2002, and we are confident that its fan base will grow significantly with the new generation. ”
The design of the new model is based on the strong, robust aesthetics of previous generations of the Sorento model, but the sharper lines and edges and more dynamic proportions give it a particularly sporty note. The fourth-generation Sorento is also the first Kia car built on the manufacturer's new mid-range SUV platform, which allows the integration of electrified propulsion systems due to its new proportions and space efficiency. In Europe, the new Sorento will be available in a wide range of hybrid or diesel propulsion systems, and the plug-in hybrid propulsion system will be available in the future.
The new Sorento offers comfortable seats that can accommodate up to seven people and one of the largest luggage compartments in its segment (up to 910 liters, depending on the equipment and engine version). Comfort features include Nappa leather upholstery and premium BOSE® audio system. The cabin has a fully digital dashboard, head-up display and a 10.25-inch navigation system that includes UVO Connect * online services.
The wide range of innovative driver assistance systems offered by the Sorento model includes the Smart Cruise Control system that uses the navigation system and the assistance system while driving on the highway (Highway Driving Assist). The new intelligent “remote” parking assistance system allows the SUV to be controlled remotely with the key and removed from a parking lot automatically. An important feature for off-road travel is the SUV's new Terrain Mode system, which helps it get better traction in mud, sand and snow.
* The UVO Connect telematics system and the UVO app are only available in certain European countries. Read More
